Advice For Arranging A Taxi For An Intoxicated Friend

Whether you're out for a night on the town with friends or are gathering at someone's house for a party, it's often possible that someone will consume too much alcohol. This situation isn't the end of the world as long as you can take charge over ensuring that the person gets home safely. One approach is to drive the person home yourself, but this may not always be possible. If you can't arrange this method of transportation, plan to arrange a taxi to transport for your friend. Doing so isn't just a matter of going out to the street, hailing a taxi, and putting your friend in the backseat. Here are some tips for this situation.

Call A Reputable Company

Your friend's intoxication makes him or her potentially vulnerable, so you want to do all that you can to ensure a safe ride home. One way that you can accomplish this goal is by hiring a reputable taxi company. If you've traveled by taxi frequently, you may have a company name in mind. You can then call the company, explain the situation, and have a driver dispatched to your location to pick up your friend.

Prepare For Being Sick

There's a chance that your friend will get sick while riding in the taxi, which could result in a cleaning fee. You can avoid this problem by preparing in advance. Look for something that your friend can carry to be sick in if the need arises. For example, you might be able to find a plastic bag or even some sort of plastic container. This will allow the person to be sick in a controlled manner and not lead to complications with paying for the taxi ride.

Take Care Of The Fare

Don't count on your intoxicated friend being able to pay the taxi fare at the end of the ride. If he or she is drunk, it's possible that your friend may have lost his or her wallet or might even forget the PIN for his or her credit card. You'll be a better friend by taking care of the fare yourself. In many cases, experienced taxi drivers will know almost exactly how much the ride from one destination to another will cost. This is especially the case at night, as there won't be much traffic to disrupt the trip. You can simply give the driver the appropriate amount of cash, including a bit of an extra tip if you'd like the driver to escort your friend to his or her front door.
